I want to ride my bicycle

I don’t have a lot to share with you today, but I promise my next post will include a picture of a cake I recently made. I haven’t been taking a lot of pictures lately, but I have been making lots of yummy food! I’ll try to get back into the habit of snapping pics before I eat. In the meantime, here’s a bad picture of an awesome meal:

They may look blurry, but they tasted awesome

They may look blurry, but they tasted awesome

DEOTS Tempeh Wingz served up with roasted baby red potatoes and roasted broccoli, both from the Farmers’ Market. The Brit wouldn’t touch the broccoli, so I may have eaten the entire head myself.

In other news, I kicked the ass of my May cycling goal, finally coming in at 133.16 miles for the month, with my longest ride being 13.22 miles. My new goal for June is 150 miles, with the additional goal of cycling 15 miles in one ride. I’ve already gone 11.2 miles today, so I’m off to a good start!

    Great looking dinner, too!

I wish I could bike that long!!! My butt always gets so sore haha
I’ll have to look into some bicycle shorts

I can eat a whole head of broccoli by myself too! So yummy.

I’m having the same problem, actually! My legs are sore, sure, but nothing compared to my poor butt! :P I guess I should invest in a more cushioned saddle?

I’m glad I’m not the only one who can eat a whole head of broccoli by myself!

  3. Yea for your cycling goal….and this picture makes me want potatoes. Like now…

Congrats on the cycling! Now that song is stuck in my head XD

Keep up the cycling! Sounds like you are doing great!

  6. Congratulations on your biking! I miss biking so much, unfortunately it is just not doable here in Bahrain. Luckily we are moving to Saudi soon, where there are miles and miles of bike trails on our new compound. I can’t wait to get back to it!

And WOW, what an amazing plate of food. Everything looks crazy good! I LOVE roasted broccoli, its my very favorite way to eat it. Yum!

Yay for biking! I wish we had more options of places to ride – we pretty much have to drive to a park in town in order to ride safely, as people here are SCARY when it comes to cyclists. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been honked and yelled at for being on the roads.

I am shocked that the Brit would not eat that broccoli. I’m telling you, if I had you cooking for me I’d eat every last thing you made and would lavish you with compliments.

And way to kick ass on the cycling goals! I must ask, however, do you wear a helmet? Because I do not. I’m a total girl when it comes to that and I think I look queer in a helmet. I need to let my ponytail fly free.

And to answer your question — would you rather look queer but have your brains intact or look fabulous dead on the ground — I would choose the latter.

Consequently, I do not ride my bike anymore, as I make my kids wear helmets. I can’t be a bad example to them, now can I?

He’s just not a broccoli guy, I guess. If we ever meet IRL, I will cook you up a vegan feast!

Thanks for the congrats! In answer to your question: no, I do not wear a helmet, but it doesn’t have anything to do with my looks (oh if you could see me when I cycle, I look a hot mess).

I probably should wear one, but I justify not doing so by thinking that if something happens and I come off my bike, the chances are pretty slim that I will somehow land on my head. I am not Lance Armstrong, I am never traveling at 70 mph (in fact, I’m never traveling at speeds faster than 25 mph). Also, I live in Memphis and it is HOT. It’s already gotten up into the 90′s (with 60% humidity) and it’s only spring. If I’m honest, I’ll admit that if I have to wear a helmet, I probably won’t cycle at all – it’s miserably hot enough without something strapped to my head.

In short, I won’t say I’ll never start wearing a helmet, but for now I don’t.

As for your kids: you can certainly go out without a helmet and make them wear one… just tell them your head is harder because you’re older, and when they grow up they can cycle without a helmet too :)
