Thanks to everyone who offered their condolences for my recent loss.
My new oven will be delivered tomorrow. I have needed a new oven since we moved into this house, but I’ve never HAD to buy one, so I’ve been putting it off. It is kind of a blessing in disguise, although choosing a replacement oven was not without it’s own trials.
The oven that died is the original from when the house was built. It’s 23 years old and never held a consistent temperature since I’ve lived in the house. It’s always required constant babysitting of my oven thermometer to not turn every cake and meal into charcoal. In a nutshell, it was time.
Unfortunately, it is a 27″ drop-in oven. The counter around it is built to fit a 27″ drop-in oven, and nothing else. There is only one 27″ drop-in oven on the market these days. It is small, it is crappy, and it is $1200. If I was going to spend that amount, I did not want to settle for a newer (admittedly better) version of the same thing. I had a tough choice to make.
I decided to shell out a little more, and get an oven that I love. Namely, this oven. I had enough money saved from my cake business to buy it in cash, thankfully. It will not fit where the old oven is, so it will have to sit on the other side of the counter (in the dining room) until I can figure something out. I can’t afford to remodel the kitchen right now, so I’ll just have to get used to having the stove in another room. It’s hard to describe, but I’ll take a picture once it’s here and in place.
Here is a picture of the last meal my oven ever made:
Baked BBQ Tempeh, couscous and mixed veggies (from the freezer!). Easy, but good.
Buying ovens isn’t all I’ve been up to the last few days. I’ve also made petit fours (among other things which I didn’t get pictures of)! These were for a bridal shower. They were having a zebra stripe and monogram theme, with red accents.
I think the zebra stripes turned out so cute:
(Hopefully) pictures of my beautiful new oven tomorrow!

I am in love with the zebra stripes on the petit fours! They are so cute. And the BBQ tempeh looks yummy =)
Those are the cutest petit fours! I can just imagine how time consuming they were.
Are you having a funeral for the old oven? =)
I know you can’t wait to play with the new one!!
Meant to mention, I love the new layout. Wait I think I already told you I am a huge fan of white space. Sorry for the reruns.
Way to go on thinking outside of the box with the new stove. Booyah!
And if I were you, I would be extremely pleased with my own talent of being able to create and bake quality cakes (for a successful cake business, no less) with an unreliable oven.
That, my friend, is something to be proud of.
My goodness, those petite fours are BEYOND gorgeous … sigh, when I get married one day … you would be the one who will be making my cakes!
Nice petit fours
Don’t worry too much about having the oven away, I’m sure you’ll get used very soon!
You’re so talented! I love those stripes.
Gorgeous petit fours! Those take some mad decorating skills.
The word of the day is: Ooooooooh! That oven is so dang gorgeous! I am happy you got it, you deserve some new accessories especially ones that will help your business. Ooooooooh! Tax write off! and Ooooooh! The petit fours are exquisite. I ordered some for Finn’s baby shower, but then we had to cancel it when he came early so we gave them to the nurses. I never thought about actually MAKING them. So cool and yummy and OOOoooooooh! Good luck with your interview, you will be fab, as always.
I’m glad you bought your dream oven! Those petit fours are crazy gorgeous.
Oh, you didn’t tell me you could make petit fours!!! I freakin’ love those things! I want vegan ones. Damn, I need to get married or have a birthday or something!
Also, it looks like your last meal was super delicious! Congrats on the new oven!
the zebra stripes are bad ass! so is your last supper! hoooooooray for a new oven, too! i can’t wait to see all the yummies you make in it!
