For Mother’s Day I made my mom (and my two older sisters, who are also mothers) a cake! It is banana cake with toasted black walnuts, iced with chocolate ‘cream cheese’ icing. Of course, the whole thing was vegan.
I made the callas out of sugarpaste.
I also made two dozen jumbo cupcakes of the same variety. I took some to lunch at Pho Hoa Binh on Saturday, then took the rest out to my mom’s that night for our early Mother’s Day gathering.
All in all, they went over pretty well. Happy (late) Mother’s Day to all you moms out there!

Oh my goodness, that looks like it’s from a fancy bakery!!
You are super talented. =) It looks scrumptious!
Wow! the callas are so perfect they look like real ones! You’re really the best!
I am pretending the cake was for me, because a choclate, tear dropped shape cake is my destiny! Those Callas are a damn work of ART!
Oops! How could I do a typo on Chocolate. HOW?? You are the bestest!
You are so wise and big hearted. Surprisingly, your kind thoughts are just as good as actually getting my cake.
That’s gorgeous!
Beautiful cake! And what a combination of flavors! Looking at the photo makes me wish I had something more exciting than an apple in my lunch…
Oh my, those callas look freakin’ real! You are like a cake decorating master! We’ll call you the Cake Masta Flash..that can be your rapper name, you know if we ever start a vegan rap group.
See ya later tonight! We’re gonna learn to airbrush! Just like in the 80s!
Oh that cake is just stellar! Your lucky mom and sisters! How did you get into cake-baking, as a career? And is it a fun job to have? You’re AWESOME at it!
That is an incredibly beautiful cake.
You have amazing talent!
Wow, that cake, there are no words!
I am in the process of learning cake decorating and haven’t gotten to sugar or gum paste yet. Those callas are absolutely gorgeous and are giving me that extra push I need to try it out! Oh, and this cake also makes me want one of those tear shaped cake pans.
Your mom must have loved it.
Hey, I had fun last night! Thanks for inviting me! BTW, I saw Montgomery Street today…it’s a few blocks west of my street…I totally wasn’t looking for it…just looked up and there it was…weird.
WOW! That is an amazing cake. I’m not evn a chocolate fan and I’d STILL be thrilled beyond words..
Great blog too, by the way!
