Last night I went to my sister’s house for a party. I didn’t really want to go, but I had promised her I would be there, so I played the role of good sister and went. I knew she wouldn’t have anything I could eat (I was right) so I brought along some food so I wouldn’t starve.
I made some sun-dried tomato hummus and served it with whole wheat pita and celery. I made extra so that I would have some for lunches and stuff, which was a good idea because the whole bowl I took was gone before the end of the night.
The hummus was good, but what would a party be without some sweets? I decided to go simple with whole wheat lemon cupcakes topped with tangy lime buttercream. And since it was a party, they couldn’t go unaccessorized:
The cupcakes seemed to go over well too, I didn’t have to take a single one home.

It looks like your food was a success! congratulations! maybe next time you’ll find some hummus in the party…
but only if nobody tells them it’s vegan
(I’m lucky to have an omni boyfriend who tries everything I cook without judging, but hey, some people are hard to convince that vegan food is not weird!)
Those cupcakes are gorgeous– what tool do you use to get the icing like that?
Those cupcakes are so cute! And whole wheat?! Yummness!
Glad the food was a hit with the omnis! Don’t you love it when non-vegans eat your vegan sweets? They’re always expecting the stuff to taste like health food. But then they’re like, wow, this is actually really good!
how could those cupcakes NOT go over well? wow. is that fondant on top? i want some, i want some, i want some!
*drool*
thanks for answering my question about the cupcakes. I want to try now… even though mine’ll never come out as beautifully as yours
Those cupcakes are so beautiful! It’s no wonder they were all eaten.
Yum! Hummus! Cupcakes! All my favorite party foods!
You are a danf genius!!!!
I am continually amazed at your photographic abilities. I love your eye for details (the view of the pancakes and the close up of the cupcakes). Well done!
The pictures are inspiring, but apparently not enough to make me cook.
That looks like some good party! yum.
