More cake porn and some other stuff

I finally got around to uploading the pictures of the wedding cake I made on Saturday. The lighting was terrible so the picture isn’t the best. The cake isn’t so much my style, but it’s what the bride and groom wanted, and that’s what it’s all about anyway.

Red Velvet cake (meh) with Italian Meringue Buttercream (the anti-vegan icing), black fondant ‘ribbon’ around the base of each tier and crimson scrolls on the sides.

Yesterday my friend Ahnah and I went to lunch at Pita Wraps here in Memphis. I had never been there before, but let me tell you they had the best falafel I’ve had this side of the Atlantic. Actually, it was the only falafel I’ve had this side of the Atlantic, but it was damn good.

The owner was so nice and as soon as he heard we were vegan he started the falafel for us. Also in the pita was hummus, garlic paste, some kind of red sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, onion and cucumber. Ahnah got jalapenos too, but I wasn’t feeling spicy yesterday. The finished product was HUGE, I had skipped breakfast and I was still only able to eat half of it.

Of course, like an idiot, I forgot my camera. No worries though, I will be back to take some pictures! After lunch we headed over to Wild Oats (it’s right by the wrap place) to do a little shopping. I bought two vegan cookies, but I didn’t get pictures of those either before they were gone… sorry!

I was excited to find a whole wheat baguette at Wild Oats, and this morning I got up early to make ‘Fronch Toast’ – a version of French Toast from Vegan with a Vengeance.

I also cooked some Smart Bacon. I was going to make my own tempeh bacon using Bianca’s recipe but I was too lazy forgot to start it last night.

It was definitely a delicious way to start my day.

MmMmmM Fronch toast looks so good! I’ve never made it ‘cuz I can’t find chickpea flour. :(

I like the Fantastic Foods products quite a bit. They aren’t spectacular by any means but with a few added veggies they are quite good. Nice for those nights when you are too lazy to cook. I stock up when they are on sale.

Pretty, pretty cake!!!! I like the squares and swirlies….and I love Red Velvet.

The Fronch toast looks great too, especially the close-up! Yum!

I’ve never been to Pita Wraps…seen it..but never been inside. Glad to know it’s worth checking out.

BTW, see ya Saturday at Java, Juice, and Jazz…

Anytime a Wild Oats Cookie gets into my car, it never makes it out alive. They’re just too damn good not to eat on the way home! The 2nd pic of the toast, with the extreme close-up of the fork…is awesome. Seriously PB, it’s XXX. Nice.

Oh & your swirls are fantastic. I wish I could get you to paint all of my walls like that, but with paint…not icing.

Unfortunately, I did get the hemp seeds in Nashville…at a place called The Turnip Truck. The Whole Foods there didn’t even have them.

But I haven’t looked here, so Wild Oats might, just might, have them. They’re the same brand as the Hemp Milk that Wild Oats carries, so….

Leslie – these were my first Wild Oats cookies, and one of them barely made it past the check-out!

Now I can’t stop hearing “bow chicka wow wow” music in my head when I look at the close-up french toast picture. I feel like I should put a black censor bar across the part where the fork meets the toast :)

Oh, I’d be happy to come paint swirls on your wall – and I accept syrup as a form of payment.

Bless you and your sexy cake talent. Funny it was red velvet. The French toast also does it for me.

I love your cakes, really. If I ever get married, be prepared to be travelling to Germany!
    mmm, french toast, nice!

The cake is so cool! Does fondant taste good? I’ve never tasted it but have seen it used many times on the Food Network. It doesn’t look like it would taste very good, because it always seems so thick and like Play Doh.

But it makes things look so good.

Like everyone else, I always love your artistic take on photos. Love the extreme close ups!

If I didn’t live in an apt. I’d say come on! My rental company is coo-coo bird about policy. I’d gladly pay in herbal syrup, so perhaps we can barter down the road. How many gallons of syrup would it cost for a vegan B-day cake come September?! Oh hey I make mead too!

You should put a censor bar on that dirty little pic of yours, it’s like forks gone wild!

Vegan or not, that is a beautiful cake!

Gorgeous cake!!! Are the scrolls fondant or buttercream?

Sorry, I’m going through all your posts looking at cake… they are all so amazing. Do you bake out of your home?
